book blog

The book I read is The Last Kids on Earth by Max Brallier. The book is the third in a series about a boy who is in the zombie apocalypse and lost his family.  In this book, the kids find a radio in the fire station and they hear a broadcast asking if anyone's out there to call them.  They try to fix the radio because they can't talk and once they fix it, they realize a monster is after them.  I recommend this book to anybody that wants a book with lots of action and are a fan of zombies.  I found this book easy to read because there are a lot of pictures and it's pretty quick.  People looking for a book to read should pick this one up!

Gmail’s Smart Reply

Ever get tired of typing responses to emails? Well, Google’s got you covered. This article from the Washington Post tells about a new feature on Google’s gmail app. Last week, users could use smart reply, a feature that gives automatic responses to an email. Gmail uses algorithms and scans your email to suggest appropriate responses. Right now, the feature isn’t perfect. AI isn’t able to detect jokes, or hidden meanings, so sometimes the response doesn’t make sense in the context.

When I read the article, I thought it was creepy and scary how Gmail could respond to your emails for you. Although the article says that no one from Google is reading your email and that users can turn off the feature, the whole idea still creeps me out. But it does bring up another question. Is letting AI respond to you emails for you respectful to the original sender? And are we becoming so lazy that we don’t want to communicate with each other? Or is this just an incredibly convenient feature? I chose this story because I thought it reported on a relevant topic.

Snaps No Longer Have To Disapper After 10 Seconds

Snapchat users have a new "infinity" timer so that their friends can see the post as long as they want. Along with that, if you tap the "looping" icon after taking a video snap it will replay repeatedly until your friend closes it or goes to another post on your Snapchat Story. Tools will now show up vertically along the right-hand side of the screen (rather than appearing horizontally on the top right). Snapchat said this format will allow the company to add more creative tools to that space in the future.

I chose this story because I love snapchat and I always get upset becauseI have to click it over and over again to get a good view on what it is, and now I can get a good view on what it is.

The Next Step in Automation? A Robot That Picks Apples

The article about this awesome new apple picking robot is very interesting. The company, Abundant Robotics, created a robot that picks apples. The inspiration for this robot came from the current “political landscape.”Many people are worried that there won’t be enough immigrant workers to pick apples. If there are not enough workers, many apples could not be sold if they weren't picked. So, Abundant Robotics created a machine that can identify, pluck, and place apples into a bin at the same speed that a human could. Although, a robot does not need to eat or sleep so it can work more than humans can. The company hopes to see these machines in orchards over the next few years. I believe that these machines are a very good idea and that in the future, every apple orchard will have them.

Experts see possible North Korea links to global cyberattac

http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory/expert-finds-north-korea-links-ransomware-attack-47432498

Cybersecurity experts are pointing to North Korea for the worldwide ransomware attacks. This is because the way the hackers took hostage computers and servers across the world was alike in the ways of previous attacks from North Korea. Simon Choi, the director at South Korean anti-virus company claims that North Korea has been mining the digital money using malicious computer programs. During the attack, the believed-to-be North Korean hackers, demanded payment from victims in bitcoins to regain access to code computers. Simon Choi is one of a number of researchers around the world who has suggested a possible link between the "ransomware" known as Wanna Cry and hackers linked to North Korea. Although the evidence of the possible cyber attack from North Korea is still far from being concluded, Choi's speculation may deepen suspicions that the nuclear-armed state is responsible.

I chose this story because computers and software interest me, and the world aside from ours does as well.

The best way to clean your phone

I read the article “Whoosh the easiest, quickest way to clean your gadget screens” it is about how dirty your phones really are. Many people take their phone everywhere, because of this their phones are exposed to bacteria and germs, which makes them very dirty. The Whoosh screen shine kit makes your phone germ and bacteria free, it also comes in a case that you can reuse with 1 ounce of spray. Instead of spraying onto the actual phone you spray it on the cloth then wipe it on the phone.

One reason I chose this article to read is because I’m one of those people who carry my phone around everywhere I go, and now that I know my phone is very dirty I was very intrigued about learning how to clean it. I found it very interesting that your phone is dirtier than a toilet seat. I found this on http://www.imore.com/whoosh-easiest-quickest-way-clean-your-gadget-screens.
